Problem with Faucet/Tap? Repair it without Plumber

Just like the kitchen is the heart of the house, in the same manner, it can be said without a shadow of a doubt that a faucet (tap) is the heart of a bathroom. It not only serves its purpose by providing water at all times but also can ruin the experience due to the occurrence of some technical glitch.

If you are reading this blog, it can only mean one thing, that is, you are really in trouble and your faucet is definitely a topic of concern.

Fret not! Be it low water pressure, spray misting, faucet handle leakage, noise from the faucet, or difficulty in operating it, this blog will cover all the concerns and give a quick remedy to repair it all by yourself.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the details!

1. Low water Pressure from the Faucet
In most cases, the main cause of low pressure of water from the faucet is the Sprayer Diverter which is placed inside the faucet body. The primary function of the diverter is to control the water going into the faucet. So, make sure to clean it and remove all the debris and minerals. In case it’s fine and there’s no such layer on top of it, you can consider changing the diverter.

You can also check the Aerator and clean it with vinegar, if possible.

If the aerator and diverter are working perfectly and in a good state, then make sure that the Stop Valves are fully open, that is, turned anti-clockwise.

2. Repair a Leaky Faucet
Water leakage from the faucet is one of the most common issues, and fixing it is not really a daunting task. To resolve it on your own, tightening the spindle/disk can definitely be a savior. In 90% of the cases, the water leaks from the faucet due to loose spindle/disk.

If the issue still persists, change the ‘O ring’ since it might be damaged and need replacing. To replace it, shut the water supply line before dismantling the faucet. Don’t forget to clean the spout and the valve body.

3. Problem with Operating the Faucet Handle
Sometimes we face the issue while turning on the faucet, and it becomes difficult to operate it without applying full force to turn it on. To turn on the faucet with ease, you can replace the cartridge or clean it with silicone-based grease (without petroleum in it). A cartridge can be damaged due to minerals or debris, and proper cleaning of it might fix the faucet handle without the need to call a plumber for rescue.

4. Spray Faucet Repair
If you are not specifically using a mist spray nozzle, then spray misting can literally be annoying at times. To fix this issue, you can check the aerator and tighten it a bit, if needed. Additionally, with the help of a cloth or a brush, you can remove the debris from the aerator, and do not forget to check the aerator washer. Afterwards, put the aerator in position and see if the water is still spraying a mist. If so, changing the aerator could be the only solution.

The above blog clearly highlights how the problem, pertaining to water leakage, low water pressure, handle operation and spray misting, with your faucet can easily be fixed by proper cleaning of the faucet parts or changing a part or two.
